Decorative and utilitarian pottery
From the artist: My beginnings with clay and art, in general, began in college. After my adventures with the military, I transferred my credits to a small Midwestern College in Pittsburg, KS, and was fortunate to find myself in a dynamic and competitive art environment in the early 1970’s. Graduating in 1976 with a degree in Education, I spent the next 30 years teaching and learning about clay as well as other art media. I have taught on the High School and College level, adult night classes, workshops and demonstrations involving several media from clay to collage and sculpture.
As far as my work goes, each piece is an individual work of art/craft. No two are the same and all work is signed by me and my studio stamps are usually applied at the foot ring. I control the process of design, creation, and firing, personally. No one else works in my studio. I work in series and try to develop a particular design direction to its conclusion, and then move on.
To chronicle my influences would seem similar to most of the generation of potters I come from; the Oriental cultures, as well as design concepts from other disciplines, be they architecture, collage’, or simply nature itself.
